Because our work team is distributed and may or may not be logged into Second Life or Opensim depending upon what they are working on, it becomes important to have a single space to contact each other via chat or voice communication at all times. The application we use for this is Skype. When you arrive for your shift, you should log into Skype and stay logged in all day long no matter what other applications you have open. You will notice the Skype icon flashing if a member of the team has sent a message in our group chat, or hear a phone ringing tone if a group call is started.
What is Skype?
Skype is free software that allows you to call other Skype users over the net, use webcams for live videoconferences, transfer files, and more. View this quick overview video for a brief introduction to what Skype can do:
Using the UCSIM Team Group Conversation on Skype
Your supervisor will invite you to join a group conversation on Skype called UCSIM Team. This serves as a "group chat" window for the team, and allows us to share files and links in real time if needed.
